WARNING: TELEPHONE FRAUD INVOLVING JURY DUTY The Cherokee County Clerk of Courts, Patty Baker, or her staff will not call Jurors that have failed to report for Jury Duty service and ask for any personal information such as social security number, birth date, bank account number, or credit card information. It has been reported scammers trying to commit identity theft have been contacting potential victims and telling them they failed to report for jury duty. They ask for confidential information for “verification” purposes and if the information is refused they tell the potential victim a warrant will be issued for their arrest. So far the scam has been reported in Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Arizona, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington State. There have been no reports of this scam in the State of Georgia at the present time. Please never give out your personal information to any court official over the telephone. The FBI are urging anyone who may receive a phone call regarding jury duty with the intent to commit identity theft to please contact your local FBI office at www.fbi.gov
Recent Juror Experience:
"Mrs. Baker, I was a juror this week, and I wanted to compliment you, your staff, and everyone in Cherokee Co. government working in the court house this week. Everyone from the police at the front gate to the judges was extremely polite, professional, and everything looked well run. I was nervous about jury duty but this has been a very positive experience. I just want to say thanks you all!"
